Should we add a rapid video creation feature to Speechi or not ?

I have been working for a long time in a Web agency – until 2002 – and video was consistently “the next big thing” from 1990 to 2002… I do like video but it just can’t be “generalized” enough as a content creation tool (heavy, expensive, long to manipulate, to cut, etc…).

So far, we have not integrated “video rapid creation” into Speechi because Speechi’s philosophy is that a professor can manipulate 100% of all features. Right now, less than 1% of professors can actually use a video creation feature, so if we integrated this functionality, we would probably just change the software name.

I tend to think that videocast software tools are just the continuation of the old video story. of course, they simplify and popularize the use of video but I think that very quickly, users will enter the awful world of professional video constraints (awful meaning tiring, expensive, etc…). We have lots of video bloggers here like Loïc and Jean-Michel, but Loïc is working with a team of people and Jean-Michel, who is making excellent videocasts, may just still be in his “enthousiastic” phase. I’d like to see what happens in one year with his video blog. I may be wring since obviously, it IS easier to produce video content as it used to be in the 90s.

And I have just seen that graph that shows that Skype downloads have significantly increased since the video feature has appeared in Skype (Skype number of minutes served have clearly been an issue before that date, in french).

Should we – or should we not – add video creation to Speechi ? What do you think ? What do you expect ?
