Record a slide
With Speechi Studio, you can record your presentation slide by slide. After each recording, you can listen to the result and do it again if you are not 100% satisfied. All recorded slides can be viewed over the Web at the end !
Once you are ready to start your class or your conference, click on
to start recording. PowerPoint will switch to the viewer mode.
Speak into the microphone in order to record the speech corresponding to you slide.
When you have finished your recording, just leave the viewer mode (escape) in order to stop the recording on your slide.
A tempo windows appears for a few seconds.

In Studio mode, you record your presentation slide by slide (one slide at a time). If you try to change your slide while recording, Speechi will detect it and stops automatically the current recording. Thus you can record another slide.
Repeat for each slide you want to record a comment on.
That’s it ! No need to save anything else ! Your presentation is ready for the Web !
Listen to your recording
You can listen to what you’ve just done with the
button. This icon is active if a comment has been recorded on the slide and you can listen to the recording if you click on it.
If you don’t like the result, just click on the Record button again and the former recording will be automatically deleted.
Delete your recording
If you want to delete what you’ve recorded on a slide, just click on the « Delete » button in the Speechi Studio bar.
Insérer une diapositive sous forme de vidéo
Speechi 4 allows you to import a video in place of a PowerPoint slide. Refer to the Video slide section in Speechi and video for more information.Insert or edit a quiz
You just need to push the “Quiz” button in the Speechi Studio bar to insert or modify a quiz.
You can then :
- Create a new quiz
- Modify a quiz
- Import an existing quiz

Quiz creation
3 steps are needed to complete this task:
You should first give your Quiz a title. Optionally, you can also add a quiz introduction that will display before quiz starts. You can insert sounds in MP3 format, which will play according to the performance of the user (good or bad answers).

The second step is the creation of the Quiz Q&A. You can add, delete or modify a question. With the right arrows, you can also change the order of the questions.

Question creation follows:

A question can hold up to 8 items. Each item can be commented. The comment will display if selected. In the “OK” column, the right answers are checked.
A timer can be set to the question to manage the answering time (in seconds).
The “only one answer is allowed” option will prevent the Quiz user from checking more than one box.
You can set the number of points attached to a given questionas well as how the points will be computed (two different ways).
The “Only score if all answers correct” mode computes points only if all the correct answers have been found by the student.
The “Score proportionally” mode accounts will divide the number of correct answers by the number of possible answers.
So for a 3 point question with 2 correct answers out of 6 possible choices:

If the student answers with one correct answer and one incorrect answer, the points are awarded as follows :
- Number of correct answers checked : 1
- Number of incorrect answers unchecked : 3
Out of 6 options, student has been right 4 times.
Therefore : (4/6) * 3 points = 2 points are awarded for this question.
After creating the list of questions, you can go to the last step.

This last screen is principally dedicated to the final score display. You can choose a value to match to consider the Quiz as achieved. You can customize text and sound associated with success or failure of the test.
The “ Quiz parameters” screen lets you change the parameters of the Quiz text.

You can change the text which appear in the quiz.
”Incomplete answer” correponds to "core proportional to number of correct/incorrect responses" mode, when student has chosen some correct answers, but not all of them.
“Partially correct answer” correponds to "Score proportional to number of correct/incorrect responses" mode, when student has chosen some correct and some incorrect answers. In the configuration menu of Speechi you will find a “Quiz” tab which will give you access to the same parameters and set them as default for all future quizzes.
Quiz modification
You have first to select in the menu the quiz you want to modify. In this list you will find all Quizzes you inserted in your presentation.
The Quiz chosen, you get access to 3 Quiz creation screens, which contain of course all the information you need to change.
You can add, remove questions, change the title, sound greeting text at the beginning or at the end.
One these changes made, these will directly appluy in the presentation.
Integration of an existing Quiz
The integration of an existing quiz enables you to reutilize quizzes from other presentations.
In order to achieve this, you have to select a file of type quiznum.xml where num represents the Speechi slide number of the presentation containing the Quiz.
You will find these XML files in the “Quiz” folder of your presentations. If you do not know to which Quiz the quiznum.xml files relate, you can open thses files with an Internet browser or your text editor. You will there easily find the title of your Quiz. The title is between the <QUIZTITLE> and </QUIZTITLE> XML tags.

The resource grid
The grid is a very important feature which lets you:
- associate resources (files, Web URLs, videos, Flash animations) to every recorded slide,
- manage those resources
- edit your recordings
- edit your slide titles and comments
- fine-tune the behaviour of your Speechi presentation (manual, automatic or scheduled mode).
Click on the Grid icon in Speechi toolbar to use the Grid.

Click on grid column headers to change default grid settings.
- # : Show slide number
- Sound : Edit sound files (recordings)
- Titles : Change titles in your Speechi Presentation
- Notes : Change comments (notes) in your Speechi Presentation
- Resources : Associate files and URLs to any Speechi slide.
- Video : Associate a Flash Video to any Speechi slide.
- Flash Animation : Associate a Flash animation to any Speechi slide.
Just click in the right cell to change settings for a particular slide (see below).
"#" Column

The "#" column lets you change the default behaviour of your Speechi presentation.
Behaviour defaults to « Automatic », meaning slides will automatically show after each other (continuous presentation). You can go to "Manual" mode. In this mode, presentation will pause after each slide and will resume only when user restarts it from the Speechi interface (by clicking on "Play" button in the Flash interface).
You can change the behaviour of any slide by clicking in the "#" cell of this slide. The same window as above shows but modifications will only affect the corresponding slide. You may also decide to show or not show the slide, as well as its annotations.

"Sound" colum
You can change / edit sound recorder for every slide:

This window first shows sound properties and allows you to listen to your recorded sound.
It also lets you import any WAV or MP3 sound into Speechi, with any sound quality (The imported sound file will be automatically processed, compressed, and incorporated into your Speechi presentation).
You can use this new feature to correct any recording, import music to your presentation, reedit your sound files, etc…
After you have imported sound, you can resynchronize your file with the "Resync" button.
Speechi processes the sound you have imported to ensure that it is compatible with Flash. A checkbox is available to disable this processing. In general, this feature is reserved for experts but if you have a file that has already been created with Speechi, we recommend using this option to avoid double processing, which reduces sound quality.
Working with VIdeo
When the grid shows a Video icon, it means your slide is sync’ed with video. This could be a video imported specifically for this slide (FLV Video) or a global video, imported for the entire presentation. In either case, Speechi gives you the ability to resync your slide with your video. View the chapter Speechi and Video for more details.
View the chapter Speechi and video for more details.

"Slide Quality" Column
In Speechi 4, a new column is available in the grid: Slide Quality.
There are 2 available qualities:
- Optimized for PowerPoint :
This is the quality offered in previous version of Speechi (Speechi 1, 2 et 3). In 99% of cases, one is unable to tell the difference between this quality and the original PowerPoint. The major advantage is that Speechi massively compresses your slides, allowing them to be viewed online at very low bandwidth (a factor of 10 to 100 times compression without loss of quality).
- Optimal (video):
If your PowerPoint presentation is extremely complex, you may encounter rendering limitations with the default quality (certain transitions do not appear completely correct, certain effects can not be exactly reproduced …).
In this case, optimal quality should be selected: this corresponds to a "video" that will be played in place of your slide (to learn more about this technology). The resulting rendering will be exact and perfect.
Though the video created in this mode will be perfect, the compression ratio for the video will be much lower in Video mode than in Powerpoint mode.
However, we use a lossless compression algorithm specially optimized for low bandwidth connections, usually requiring 150 to 200 Kbps, allowing the resulting video to be viewed on any DSL-like connection.
To our knowledge, no other product offers such a high quality at such low bandwidth requirements.
"Titles" column
Click on colums "Titles" header to modify default titles for your slides.

Reminder: The default title will appear in your Speechi presentation if your PowerPoint slide has no title. If your PowerPoint slide has a title – or if you have manually entered a title for your slide in the Grid (see below), the PowerPoint title will appear.
You can also modify the default title for your Whiteboard drawings (if you have acquired the Speechi Pro license) and the default title for quizzes.
.
The titles of your PowerPoint slides are automatically imported into the Grid – so they will show in your Speechi presentation. You can modify a title manually by clicking in the corresponding cell for any slide.
"Notes" column
Click on “Notes” column header to modify the title of the “Notes” button in Speechi front-end (see below).

If you click on “Notes” button in front-end, you can read slide comments. If you do not want to let viewers access you slide comments, just unclick the “Export comments” box.
The PowerPoint comments get automatically imported into the Grid – so they will show in your Speechi presentation. You can modify comments manually by clicking in the corresponding box for any slide.

"Annotations" Column
If your slide has annotations, this column allows you to show (default) or to hide them.
Only Speechi Pro allows annotations. If you don’t have Speechi Pro, a flying “Demo” will appear on top of your Speechi presentation. In this case, hiding the annotation will get you out of this “Demo” mode.
"Resources" column
Click on “Notes” column header to modify the title of the “Notes” button in Speechi front-end (see below).

You can add resources to any slide. A resource can be any URL or any file.

To access these resources from Speechi front-end, click on "Resources" button.

"Video" Column
Use the video column to import Flash video files and synchronize them with your Speechi presentations.
Click on video column header to access default option settings.

You can change the title of the Video button that will show in Speechi front-end.
You can change the default behaviour of your videos:
- Automatic : video automatically appears and disappears (no need to click on “Video” button in front-end).

- You can use the main Quiz score. The “completed” status will depend on the score of the student. If he succeeds when answering the main quiz, he completes.
You can attach one video file to any slide. That video will be automatically integrated when you publish that presentation to the Web.
Click on « Browse » to select a video...

... and import the videos into Speechi with the Video Import Wizard.
In this configuration, Speechi lets you view video films that are in sync – or not in sync – with you main talk. Videos will show on the right side and will appear above your Powerpoint presentation.

"Flash Animation" column
Use the Flash column to import Flash animation files (swf) and synchronize them with your Speechi presentations.
Click on video column header to access default option settings.

You can change the title of the “Flash” button that will show in Speechi front-end.
You can change the default behaviour of your Flash Animations:
You can upload one Flash animation for each slide. Just use the « Upload » button to fetch your Flash animation file (swf) from your hard disk. This file will be automatically exported with your Speechi presentation when you upload it on the Web.
Once you have done this, Speechi can be used to view any Flash animation and, if you wish, you can synchronize those with your main Speechi comments.

Whiteboard Studio mode
When you click on button
in the Speechi Studio toolbar, you can import a XML drawing made with the Whiteboard in Studio mode into your PowerPoint presentation, as well as sound comments. This drawing is imported after the current PowerPoint slide. The animation will be played in Flash.

Integrate SCORM in your presentation
A Speechi presentation can be integrated into your presentation. The version used is SCORM 1.2.
Creating a SCORM presentation is very easy. Once your Speechi presentation (creation, adding presentation resources, commentaries, etc…) is completed :

The creation has two steps.
The first step is about the presentation itself and all the information related to it You can choose a title, a description and a version, which will be displayed on your e-learning platform in the presentation description.
The second step enables you to choose the conditions which will determine “completion” of the presentation on the platform. You have 3 validation modes:
Some e-learning platforms require a zipped presentation as input. The option “Zip the SCORM presentation” enables you to Zip only the relevant elements in order to prepare the Zip file.
Your Scorm presentation goes to the /Scorm folder.
To adapt to all Learning Management Systems (LMS), Speechi will produce either a hierarchical zip file:

or a flat zip file:
